Pencak Silat Mande Muda (PSMM) is a complete martial arts system from the Suwanda family of West Java, Indonesia. Mande Muda was developed from traditional styles of Pencak Silat, and it continues to grow in the hands of its proponents as a living art. The knowledge of Mande Muda was once used by guerrilla heroes who fought for the freedom of Indonesia. Now, Mande Muda is an effective method of self-defense, a tool for self-development and a vehicle to preserve and share the traditional culture of Indonesia.
Traditional Pencak Silat is both deadly and beautiful with both combative application and artistic expression. The techniques of Pencak Silat Mande Muda are based on principles of body mechanics and leverage making them functional for both the old and young, male and female. Training includes throws, takedowns, locks, breaks, counter-grappling, ground-fighting, empty hands and weapons combat. Emphasis in training is developing critical thinking skills and the ability to grow. The Mande Muda system also includes stylistic, cultural, and historical studies, meditation and personal development. Pencak Silat Mande Muda offers the best of tradition yet cultivates the ability to adapt to change.
